Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is the daughter of British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby (born in Paris) and Chris Watson (born in Paris). When she was five, she moved from London to Oxfordshire where she studied at The Dragon School. Emma always had the desire to become a professional actor since she was aged six. She was enrolled at Stagecoach Theatre Arts in Oxford, an acting institute with part-time courses. At the age of 10 years old, Emma took part in many Stagecoach plays and productions. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone The 2001 film adaption from J.K. Rowling's bestselling book was cast in 1999. Emma was discovered by casting agents via Emma's Oxford theatre instructor. David Heyman told Emma along with Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe after having 8 consecutive auditions. Emma's debut on the big screen took place in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone which was released in 2001. The film was also the most successful film during 2001. Its opening weekend and day the sales were record breaking. Reviewers have been highly lauding the film and the performance of the three young actors. The Daily Telegraph in Britain and the Daily Telegraph in America, widely read, called her performance commendable. Emma got five nominations in recognition of her exceptional performance. In the end, she received the Young Artist Award in Leading Young Actresses of the Film.
